Sights to see at Picuris Pueblo
Picuris Pueblo is nestled in the serene beauty of what is referred to as the "hidden valley" of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Nothern New Mexico. Our village rests along the banks of the Rio Pueblo River, which nourishes the evergreens, cottonwoods, aspens, lush grasses and flowers that blanket our valley and surrounding mountains. Majestic rock outcroppings jut out into the landscape. Our scenic, well-stocked fishing pond along with campground and picnic areas provide secluded getaways for the road weary traveler.
When you visit Picuris you can fish, hike through the natural beauty along the river, tour ancient ruins, tour a restored 200-year-old adobe church, eat traditional foods at our picnic tables, watch our bison herd, visit our museum in the Visitor's Center, or view the beautiful arts and crafts in our gift shop. Self-guided tours are allowed, and camera and tour permits are required and available at the Visitor's Center.
Guided tours, either walking or driving, are available on request, and it is wise to book these in advance. These include the ruins, bison herd, museum, or ancient agricultural sites. For more information please click here.
